NORDSONNE IDENTITY & Evangelische Kirche in Deutschland EKD

Several surveys had confirmed it: the overwhelming majority of Germans are pleased about the liberalization of Sunday opening hours. Only the churches want to set an example: that Sunday is a day of rest.

The campaign of the Protestant Church against the opening of shops on Sundays in Germany should not, above all, convey the following image: that of a spoilsport. At any rate, the majority of Germans are pleased about the liberalization of the Closing Time Act. This was the inspiration behind the decision for a campaign with a positive twist, focusing, with some irony, on its market leadership on a Sunday.

The campaign was rapturously received by the regional and national media. Thus, for example, Dagmar Reim, Director of the Berlin-Brandenburg Broadcasting Corporation (RBB), believed the campaign was successful: "What I liked most was a poster from your church: "We're always open on Sunday". That's the way it has to be. Clear, unambiguous, unique. If you act that way, then I don't fear for your future. In the end, it is you (Matthew 5, 14) who are the city on the mountain. Visible for miles around. With charisma. And by no means a tiny insignificant outfit in the valley of tears. Go for it: Avanti, protestanti!« (Dagmar Reim: »Von anderen lernen«, Future Congress of the Protestant Church in Germany in Wittenberg, 2007)
